Heat wave interrupts Bay Area's cool summer

A mini-hit wave sweeps into the Bay Area today and will stick around through Tuesday or Wednesday, producing the hottest weather of a cool summer and the region's first Spare the Air smog alert of the season today.

High temperatures are expected to approach or reach 100 degrees in Brentwood, Concord and Livermore, with highs in the mid-90s in San Jose and the 80s in Oakland, according to a the National Weather Service forecast.

On Tuesday, the mercury is expected to climb to about 105 in the warmest areas, forecasters said.

"It will be the hottest temperatures of the year," said Mark Strobin, a meteorologist with the weather service.

The blast of heat air is expected to move out by Wednesday or Thursday, with temperatures dropping by about 25 degrees by the weekend, he said.

The heat spurred clean air regulators to call a Spare the Air alert for today. Residents are urged to avoid strenuous outdoor exercise because of predictions of unhealthy smog concentrations. An alert may be issued for Tuesday as well.

It is the first smog alert of a year with unusually clean air.

To minimize smog, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District asks residents to take public transit or carpools to work, or to telecommute. The agency also urges residents to avoid using aerosol hair sprays or gas-powered lawn mowers or leaf blowers.

The weather service attributes the hot weather to a high pressure ridge moving in and staying directly over the Bay Area, bringing in a flow of hot air from the Central Valley.

明天Fremont預計是93度 呵呵

我們 inland 昨天 106F，今天也有 100F
雖然說真的是很熱
不過這才像是 inland 夏天很熱的時候的溫度
不然之前真的一點都不像夏天
也就是因為像夏天
昨天跟今天都吃了冰淇淋 ^_^

熱浪來去匆匆, 才幾天就又回到65度的氣溫了~ 舒服啊~
